FREEMASONRY

The Fraternity of Freemasonry is the oldest, largest and most widely-known fraternal organization in the world. Freemasonry is found throughout the civilized world, even in oppressed countries where it is not allowed to exist openly.
Volumes have been written about Freemasonry,(many not truthful), yet to many people it remains a mystery.
Freemasonry is Dedicated to the Brotherhood of Man, Freemasonry's singular purpose is to make good men better. Not better than someone else, but better within themselves. Masonry teaches that each person has an obligation to make a difference for good. Freemasonry is kindness in the home, honesty in business, courtesy in society, fairness in work, concern for the unfortunate and respect for one another.
Is Masonry a secret society?.

No! It does have some modes of recognition, but most Masons do not hide their membership, or where and when they meet.
What else? Masonry's strength is in helping people. Every day in North America, Masons donate over two million dollars to charitable causes.
FREEMASONRY is the world’s oldest and largest fraternal organization. Today, there are more than four million Masons worldwide, and some two million in North America. They come from every walk of life, from many religions and many diverse ideologies.
Freemasonry tends to men to be strictly obedient to its precepts. Through its fundamental belief in the Brotherhood of Man and the immortality of human soul, it seeks to make a good man a ‘better man.’ It is an organization formed and existing on the basic tenets of Brotherly Love, Relief of the distressed and Truth in all things.
These tenets are ethical principles acceptable to good men everywhere. It teaches the universality of man, regardless of race, creed or nationality.
It teaches tolerance of all mankind.
The History of Freemasonry traces its antecedents to the associations of operative craftsmen, the builders of Gothic cathedrals, which history records were introduced into England as early as 674 A.D. and flourished during the Middle Ages.Between the 17th and early 18th centuries as cathedral building came to an end, guilds of stonemasons began to accept as members other good men not directly connected with the builders craft, terming them Speculative of Accepted Masons.

Due to their professional knowledge and skills, master craftsmen were accorded special privileges, including that of traveling and working in foreign countries freely to employ their craft. In order to protect their associations from intrusion by outsiders, these craftsmen developed secret means of identification and recognition – the secrets of the guilds.

Gradually, Lodges came to be composed almost entirely of Free and Accepted Masons, and from these groups the Freemasonry of today had its origin.

All believe in the existence of a Supreme Being and meet as friends and brothers, in peace and harmony. This is one of the great fascinations of Masonry and one of its great strengths.
A Masonic Creed teaches the universal principle of unselfish friendship and promotes those moral precepts which are in keeping with all great faiths. In pursuing this doctrine; the following, though not exclusive, is considered to be basic:

Masonic Beliefs:

• Mankind was created by one God.
• This one God is the author of all life.
• God ‘s existence is revealed to man through faith and the Book of Holy Scriptures.
• The Book of Holy Scriptures is the Ultimate Authority or Great Light of Freemasonry.
• The soul of Man is Immortal.
• Man’s commitment to Divine Providence determines his destiny.
• Man’s reverence for God is best exemplified by his actions toward his fellow man.

Considering the universality of Freemasonry, it teachings cannot be defined by any single statement or established profile.
The following is considered to be representative of its fundamental precepts and constitutes basic:

These are Masonic Teachings:
Man’s first duty to is to love and revere God, implore His aid in all laudable undertakings and seek His guidance through prayer, embrace and practice the tenets of religion, extend charity and sympathy to all mankind, shield and support the widow and orphan, defend virtue, respect the aged, honor and bonds of friendship, protect the helpless, lift up the oppressed, comfort the downcast, restore dignity to the rejected, respect the laws of government, promote morality and add to the common stock of knowledge and understanding.

To BE a Mason, one HAS to Ask To be One --or--2B1-ASK1.
Among millions of Masons, for hundreds of years, it was not lawful to invite a friend to apply for membership. Our code of conduct prevented it. Thus, no faithful Mason could invite you to join. Hence, to be one, you have to ask one.
You must first ask yourself if you're suitably prepared to enter the gentle craft of Masonry to become a brother in the world's most exclusive fraternal order.
Few men are intellectually or spiritually prepared to understand or appreciate even the most apparent meanings of Masonry.
Do you reflect on the nature of man's purpose in life and will you make obligations to God, your family, and yourself?
--- If such ethical and moral questions hold little interest for you, then you will gain little benefit from the teachings of the Craft. But if you seek a more meaningful quality of life and the spirit of charity and good fellowship which flow from it then Freemasonry has much to offer.

We want the world to know what we believe, how we act, and what we do and, then, should you become a Mason, we want you to be proud of our Fraternity and to participate in our work.
Only those who desire membership because of their favorable impression of us should seek a petition to join.

What We Ask of You?
Any man who is twenty (20) years of age or older and of good moral character, who comes well recommended, and who believes in a Supreme Being and in the immortality of the soul may petition to become a Freemason.

  • Consistory

    The Shrine
The Shrine is an international fraternity of approximately 500,000 members who belong to Shrine Temples throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Panama. Founded in New York City in 1872, membership in the Shrine is open to all Master Masons.
The Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine for North America is the home for all Shriners in North America.
The Shrine is most well known for the network of 22 Shriner's Hospitals for Children.
Membership in the Shrine is open to any Master Mason in good standing.

    DeMolay
DeMolay is the premier youth organization dedicated to teaching young men to be better persons and leaders. Under the "advisorship" of adults; leadership skills, civic awareness, responsibility, and character development are learned through a variety of self directed, real world applications and activities. DeMolay builds confidence; teaches responsibility, cooperation and community service; and fosters trust, respect, fellowship, patriotism, reverence, and sharing.

    International Order of Job's Daughters
Job's Daughters is an organization for young women. They can help you learn important skills for life, such as leadership, organization, teamwork and self reliance. They will work to help your community.

    Order of the Eastern Star
The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women may belong.
Worldwide, there are currently more than 1 million members under the General Grand Chapter.
Eastern Star is a social order comprised of persons with spiritual values but it is not a religion. Its appeal rests in the true beauty of the refreshing and character-building lessons that are so sincerely portrayed in its ritualistic work.
A deep fraternal bond exists between its members. It is the wholesome relationship of sisterly and brotherly love brought about through high principles exemplified in our lives which makes us near and dear to each other.
While this is an Order composed of people of deep spiritual convictions, it is open to all faiths, except no faith. The personal welfare of our members is vital to all of those in the Eastern Star and it is considered a privilege to help another member whenever we can.

    ******************************************************** SHRINE
Shriners operate the largest network of hospitals in North America for burned and orthopedically impaired children, free of charge.

    The Scottish Rite Masons
The Scottish Rite Masons maintain a network of some 150 Childhood Language Disorder Clinics, Centers, and Programs.

Other members of the Masonic Family sponsor a variety of philanthropies, including scholarship and public Service activities for their communities.

    The Masonic Family
The foundation of the Masonic Family is the Masonic Lodge. It is here that Masonry teaches its lessons.

    SCOTTISH RITE FREEMASONRY
For over two centuries the Scottish Rite has been the medium for many Master Masons to reflect on their understanding of their relationship in their faith, to their fellow man and themselves.
It enables Master Masons to add to their Masonic knowledge and to witness colourful Scottish Rite 'degrees' which are dramatic presentations portraying the philosophy of Freemasonry.

    The Scottish Rite (ritual)
delves further into Masonic teachings and is meant to provide more insight into living a more meaningful way of life for a Master Mason and his family. It also includes enjoying the friendships and association with a larger and wider cross-section of like-minded men and their families.

    YORK RITE FREEMASONRY
The York Rite gives an elaboration on the teachings of the Masonic Lodge. This Rite is divided into several bodies including the:
  • Holy Royal Arch
  • The Preceptory.

    The Holy Royal Arch

On your journey through the three degrees of Masonry, you would have learned the proficiency lecture for each degree. Many questions would have arisen concerning the meaning of the ceremonies, the historical implications and the 'why' of the legends of Freemasonry. Most students of Freemasonry agree that the story of the Craft as presented in the three degrees is incomplete and that the degrees offered in the Holy Royal Arch of the York Rite of Freemasonry complete the story and answer many of the questions in the mind of the newly made Master Mason.
In the Holy Royal Arch of Jerusalem is found the essentials of symbolism and philosophy necessary for a Master Mason to understand that which he has received.

    THE SHRINERS

The Shriners are known for their colourful parades, circuses and clowns. But there is also a serious side to this international fraternity of approximately 500,000 men belonging to 191 Shrine Centres, throughout North America.
For over 80 years, the Shrine has operated a network of specialized hospitals that treat children with orthopaedic problems, burns and spinal cord injuries, up to their 18th birthday, at no cost to them.
The Shrine was founded in 1872 by a group of 13 men belonging to the Masonic Order. It was originally established to provide fun and fellowship for its members. But as the organization grew, its members decided to dedicate their efforts to helping others by establishing an official Shrine philanthropy — a network of 22 specialized hospitals that have provided expert medical care to more than 600,000 children.
Since the first Shriners' Hospital opened in 1922, the Shrine has supported what has come to be known as: the "World's Greatest Philanthropy".
The best-known symbol of Shrine is the distinctive red Fez that Shriners wear at official functions. Because Shriners are men who enjoy life, fun is a large part of the Shrine and the activities that help support the Shrine's philanthropy.
Most Shrine Centres sponsor Shrine clubs and special units, such as the motor corps, band or clown units and many other units of interest. They share in the camaraderie, deep friendships and good fellowship that are all part of being a Mason and a Shriner.

    THE TEMPLARS
The Knights Templar is an Order formed in 1118. Their mission was to protect travellers on the roads to the Holy Land. In short order the Templars blossomed to a very large organization. Their mission today is to enhance the Masonic virtues of faith, hope and charity, supported by wisdom, strength and beauty, adding the chivalric principles of-the Crusades of honour, duty and courage, so that the results will be in harmony with our Masonic beliefs.

    For Other Family Members

The Masonic Family also includes many bodies where other family members can participate, such as:
  • The Order of the Amaranth
  • The Order of the Eastern Star.
  • The Daughters of the Nile.
  • Ladies of the Oriental Shrine.
  • For young men. The Order of DeMolay
  • For young ladies, The International Orders of Rainbow for Girls
  • Job's Daughters
  • All of these Orders are based on the Masonic themes expressed in the above writing.
